Overview
As a volunteer educational mentor for AFEV, I support students facing academic difficulties in their educational journey. This experience has allowed me to develop my skills in pedagogy and personalized support.
Mission Context
AFEV (Association de la Fondation Étudiante pour la Ville) is an association fighting against educational inequalities in France. As a mentor, I work with young people from priority neighborhoods to offer them academic support and personalized guidance.
Pedagogical Approach
Adapting to Individual Needs
Each student has specific needs and a different learning pace. I’ve developed a flexible approach that adapts to:
- The student’s academic level
- Their learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic)
- Their interests to make sessions more engaging
Creating Interactive Materials
To maintain student engagement remotely, I’ve created:
- Interactive online quizzes
- Visual materials adapted to each subject
- Practical exercises with immediate feedback
Tools and Technologies Used
While this is a non-technical role, I’ve used various digital tools:
- Zoom/Google Meet for video conferencing sessions
- Google Classroom for resource sharing
- Kahoot/Quizlet for interactive quizzes
- Google Docs for collaborative tracking
Impact and Results
The mentoring sessions have helped to:
- Improve students’ self-confidence
- Strengthen their skills in subjects where they faced difficulties
- Develop more efficient work methods
Personal Reflections
This experience taught me that technology is just a tool - the real impact comes from listening, patience, and the ability to adapt to everyone’s needs. These soft skills are just as important in the professional world as technical competencies.
